A yoga bolster is a great addition to your yoga gear set after you have your yoga block, mat and resistance bands. They come in various and sizes and colors so you can choose one that matches your personal preference.
Yoga bolster uses
These yoga bolsters are superb for helping you in more advanced poses or during shavasana. They are great in advanced poses where you aren’t quite flexible enough so you can rest on it. For example as you are learning the pigeon pose a bolster is extremely helpful. As you slowly get more flexible the bolster can support you so you don’t go too deep into the pose that it harms you.
There is a number of positions you can place it during shavasana to open up and relax certain areas. These include:
- Under the knees – this tilts the pelvis back which opens up the hips. It also reduces pressure on the lower back. Great after a long day at the office.
- Length wise under your spine with hips on ground – this position really opens up and stretch the hips. It can also be beneficial to spread the knees wide and place the feet together.
- Length wise under the spine with the shoulders on the ground – opposite to above this opens up the shoulders. Another one that is fantastic after a lot of sitting time with bad posture.
